For week 4 of the assignment, the following tasks were completed:
- Choosing a final design for the smart remote
- Creating a draft of the design using 3D software to be 3D printed
- Coming up with a name for the smart remote
The first task that was completed was choosing a final design for the smart remote. The remote decided on the final choice as it looks the most modern and sleek compared to the others, which makes it more appealing for customers who want to stay on top of technology. All of the requirements for the features such as speaker grills also fitted more naturally than in the other designs. The final design can be seen here:
The second task that was completed was creating a draft of the design using 3D software to be 3D printed. The software used to create a 3D model of the smart remote was SolidWorks, as the member of the group who created it is a product design student and is more experienced with the software and therefore can make a good model. During the design process other members of the groups shared their inputs to ensure that the final outcome was a design that everyone was happy with, although it was only a draft version. The 3D model can be seen here:
The third task that was completed was coming up with a name for the smart remote. The group decided to name the product “Vmote” as it still sounds similar to “remote” but makes it sounds modern and new, also because it is short it makes the name more memorable and catchy which would help with things such as marketing.
