MWD Level 4 Induction Activity

Digital Storytelling

Digitals stories come in many forms: books for toddlers with audio sound effects, digital photo albums, mobile phone images/audio recording, stories read onto tape/cd and used for long car journeys, DVDs of films, web-based iPlayer, video-on-demand services, blogs – the list goes on!

Stories may be told using different media – text, graphics, audio, video, animation and in some game situations, as haptic feedback.

Level 4 students were tasked with creating a video-based digital story entitled “I spy with my little eye…” and present it to the class. The results are below!

Calling all web students – did you know…

… that UX designers are commanding high salaries at the moment?

User Experience

So, all you people taking, or interested in User Interaction / Experience / Interface / Design, you’ll find employers are particularly looking for individuals who can perform (and I quote) the following:

“YOU MUST BE A RUTHLESS DESIGNER ABLE TO POINT OUT A POOR DESIGN AND EXPLAIN HOW YOU CAN MAKE IT BETTER. WE ARE LOOKING FOR A CONFIDENT, NATURAL LEADER”

You could just end up with a salary of up to 70k if this subject is your kind of thing! See the full list of  See UI Designer Jobs.

Research for designing a skiing app

Level 5 Multimedia and Games Design students undertook research for a Ski App they are developing as part of their studies. To help understand what skiing is all about they had a Ski lesson on the dry slope in Gloucester. Grasping the pain that skiers go through every time they put their ski boots on was an important part of the day.

Great weather for our research trip to establish the ergonomic issues with mobile devices and skiing!

After we’d taken off those agonising ski-boots we all looked quite cheerful, even poor Chris with the ice-pack after a contretemps with the ski-tow! Nina remembered that she goes skiing regularly – every 20 years!

The tutors, Nina, Paul & Lewis, joined in by taking part in the activity as well! The best Ski App’s will be displayed at COMX14 on 1st May 2014. See http://comx.glos.ac.uk for more details.

Job: Rachel Tillotson needs a web designer!

RachelT

I am a film lecturer on Park Campus and I need to make a 20 minute (or less) trailer about a comedy web series and it requires a web designer to help with promotion. If this gets commissioned – as an idea – then it might lead to work (on the web series). I know I’d certainly push for this.

Are you a keen, talented and dedicated student who might want to work with me to design an interface for this work? I am happy to meet up at Park to explain a little about what I do, this is my staff profile:  http://insight-dev.glos.ac.uk/academicschools/dcmp/staffprofiles/Pages/RACHELTILLOTSON.aspx and this is my own website: http://racheltillotson.com/

Although this is unpaid work at the moment, hopefully it’ll be fun and produce a useful item for your portfolio.

Please email me: till_r@hotmail.com
