Pocket Gamer Connects

Pocket Gamer Connects is returning to London in 13-14 January 2015 with another spectacular mobile gaming conference and indie developers are very much invited to join the fun.

Created and curated by the team behind Pocket Gamer and Pocket Gamer Biz, over 100 speakers from the leading mobile gaming companies will be coming along to share their wisdom.

And indies will be playing a big part in proceedings. Our Indie Survival Guide track, which will give practical advice on surviving in the indie mobile market, will boast the following big indie names:

Rare has been running under their current name for 25 years, and previously as Ultimate their legacy stretches back further still. Established in 1985 to focus on the expanding console market, Rare partnered with Nintendo and sealed a reputation for quality with titles ranging from Donkey Kong Country to GoldenEye.

They continue to target top-tier development at their custom-built rural HQ in Twycross, Leicestershire. The boundless opportunities afforded by Microsoft’s Kinect motion sensor are Their current source of inspiration, with the multi-million selling, double BAFTA-winning duo of Kinect Sports and Kinect Sports: Season Two already under their belts.

The Opportunity

We have been lucky enough to be asked to help find individuals to take part in an exclusive focus group to test the latest game from Microsoft’s Rare studio.

Each person will be asked to be part of this unique group for four days in November, December or January and will to provide honest feedback with the intention of improving the forthcoming release.

The successful candidates

All applicants are welcome! Whether you are a gamer or not, if you’ve never played a game in your life it doesn’t matter, as long as you can be available for all four days you’re welcome to apply. You will need to have good verbal and written communication skills as well as be able to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

League of Legends Stepping Ever Closer To An Accepted Sport


For anyone unfamiliar League of Legends, it is the most popular online game with 32 million active players as of earlier this year.

League of Legends its 4th season, with the Season 3’s finale featuring tonight: Korea’s SK Telecom T1 vs China’s Royal Club. The teams will compete for the first place prize of $1,000,000 and the loser taking home a respectable $250,000. The tournament featured 14 teams from across the globe as well as a $2,000,000 prize fund. The finals are being held at The Staples Center, with a sold out crowd of approximately 17,000.

League of Legends currently has a “Premiere” League in Europe, America, China, Taiwan and Korea. 8+ Teams compete in a weekly League fighting for $100,000 per split (8 weeks), as well as securing a place in the world finals at the end of the season (1 year).

Before now, the only way for teams to qualify for the Premiere League in Europe and America, was in a 32 team knockout bracket with only the highest ranked teams on the ladder participating. However, today Riot Games has announced that there will be a new “Challenger” League below the Premiere League (!) with headline sponsor Coke Zero.

League of Legends is becoming more and more socially accepted as a real sport and even super star athletes, like NFL’s player Chris Kluwe who spoke to Riot Games, recently gave their opinion on how Esports is growing into a real sport. LoL and NFL.
